Description
Investing in Black culture is priority #1 for chef JJ Johnson. The James Beard Award-winning chef, author, and TV personality has made it his personal and professional mission to amplify Black culture through food – to use food not merely as a means of breaking boundaries and building bridges but to reimagine it as a model for rewriting history.
"The Cookout" is Chef JJ's way of reclaiming and celebrating the beauty and sheer brilliance of African American cuisine. It's an opportunity to relish and honor the individuals who have breathed life into this extraordinary culinary tradition. As the visionary behind this unique SOBEWFF® walkaround event, hosted by the founder of FIELDTRIP, Chef JJ aims to spotlight dishes that form the rich tapestry of Black culture.
At this event, you'll be treated to an array of dishes, each representing a piece of Black culture's deeply layered flavor. These dishes will be brought to life by an exceptional and diverse group of chefs who, like Chef JJ, are passionate about reconstructing historical food traditions and paying homage to culturally significant ingredients and cooking techniques.
Join them at the Eden Roc for a celebration of community and culture, where the narrative is flipped, and delicious flavors are dished out with love. To elevate this culinary experience, guests can enjoy refreshing Stella Artois, perfectly complementing the vibrant array of flavors. It’s not just food for the body; it’s food for the soul—an event where you’ll savor the tastes of history and culture like never before.
