A culinary professional with over 15 years of experience, Dan Wood started working in kitchens at 16 years old. He first started at a lobster restaurant in New London, Connecticut, making lobster rolls, fish and chips, and shucking oysters. This experience inspired him to study Culinary Arts at Johnson and Wales, which led to his next role in Newport Rhode Island. There, he worked at a Yacht Club and Marina creating fresh dishes provided by local fishermen. It was then he realized he was in love with food and wanted to know everything there was to know. He began to train amongst multiple chefs in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Boston, Washington, DC, Dallas, Santa Monica and Miami.
His career formally began at The Forge in Miami, where he spent 5 years as the Chef de Cuisine under Chefs Christopher Lee and Julia Doyne. It was there he learned not only how to how to create a menu and recipes, but how to present himself in a restaurant and truly become a professional chef.
After 5 years in Miami, he moved to Washington, DC to work at Sofitel Hotel, one block from the White House as the Chef de Cuisine. This French restaurant influenced Dan to explore cooking through the lens of creativity and leadership within a large format hotel.
Eventually, Dan made his way back to Miami where he opened two successful restaurant concepts at The Moxy Hotel South Beach. His main focus there was to create and lead a positive work environment.
In 2023, he was promoted to Executive Chef at The Moxy Hotel. His main goal now, is to take Serena and the other venues at The Moxy to new heights, creating something unique inside of their South Beach residence.
